We have had a most wonderful holiday - 3 weeks - in the lead up to Christmas 2017. The facilities in our room were of a very high standard - especially as I cooked every night during our stay and the kitchen was exceptionally well appointed - great knives (which were honed well), great heavy bottomed pans and just about everything you need for either a short, or in our case, long, stay. Staff were great - room services were carried out with care - a great holiday and one we hope to repeat in 2018! What surprised me though was the lack of regard some holiday makers had for their fellow guests and the wildlife. In a 'unit' environment you have people above, below and beside you. Thumping around and dragging furniture impacts on your neighbours. When we live in detached houses for the mist part, we forget how we can impact on others' space & holidays. The other point in question - the bird-life and kangaroos. Both of which are abundant and a delight! Some holidaymakers did not caution their kids/teenagers - even toddlers! - about the dangers of trying to interact with the kangaroos. We had one male buck who was feeling very amorous indeed, trying his luck with two of the females, yet despite his size and potentially dangerous behaviour, parents saw no problem in letting their kids try to get up close and personal while the roos courted on the grass outside the two unit blocks. We've been visited by kookaburras and butcher birds each day and curlews strolling around the grounds of an evening. Was really upsetting to see kids and teenagers terrorising the curlews and chasing them all over the place. Whale Watch resort is a home to the wildlife - the human visitors are simply tourists and should respect the wildlife and teach their kids to, in my opinion. Yesterday afternoon an influx of new holidaymakers arrived. Among them was a young toddler, probably about 4, who was enthusiastic to see the kangaroos! Spent over an hour in the gardens trying to get close to them - and dad cleared off inside & left him to it. His sister/s friends came out to get him back inside, but he wasn't having any of it. There were a couple of times when he was on the front lawn, overlooking Main Beach, all by himself...with the roos. The purpose of this post is to remind holidaymakers to Straddie, and particularly to Whale Watch, that the wildlife will be here long after we/you leave and this is their home and environment. Treat them with respect and care and monitor and keep a close eye on your kids - these animals are WILD - they are not domestic pets and they are unpredictable. It is NOT a petting zoo! I was genuinely concerned for the well being of some of the kids - it could all have ended in tears with kids injured. Please folks, enjoy Straddie, but show some common sense.

An absolute dream location at the web's of the road to Point Lookout. With the new paths and gardens..Pete and Christine have the place looking amazing...not to mention the ocean views and the local wildlife encounters on a daily basis.
