About Afternoon In Melbourne: Small Group Booze And History Tour

Book Direct with the Owner at Afternoon In Melbourne: Small Group Booze And History Tour with Accommodation Newcastle in Melbourne, for all your Attraction and travel needs.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Old Treasury Building, 20 Spring St, East Melbourne VIC 3002, Australia

We begin next to the Sir William Clarke Memorial next to the Old Treasury Building. A symbolic area of Melbourne and home to our Parliament. The order of the venues may change, but together we will visit a variety of our favourite local watering holes, these may include a classic craft beer establishment, a laneway bar, a hidden speakeasy and a rooftop bar.

Everyone has their favourite drink but you’ll be encouraged to try something different on this tour. Never tried whiskey? We’ll take you to a place where you can discover its charms.

Want to check out some local wines? With the Yarra Valley just a stone’s throw away, it would be a sin not to taste some of the delectable wines in the region.

The craft beer scene is exploding in Melbourne right now yet beer has always had a rich history in the city. You’ll learn about the standard pour sizes of Victorian beers and how beer nearly led to all alcohol being banned during the gold rush.

Many of Melbourne’s most popular bars are in tiny, hidden laneways and survive on word of mouth alone. Visit a speakeasy-style bar and learn about how and why Melbourne’s laneway scene developed.

Rooftop bars are a favourite place for Melbournians to gather and not just in summer. During winter, some rooftops add a marquee and heaters and carry on regardless. You’ll visit one of the most eclectic rooftop bars in the city

Melbourne’s bar scene is ever-changing, so one of the bars will be chosen by your guide on the day, depending on the group’s desires, the weather, and what is trending in Melbourne at the time.

If you’re still thirsty by the end of the tour, don’t forget to ask your local guide for some more recommendations, so you won’t have to worry about a dry mouth for the rest of your stay in Melbourne.

Duration: 3 hours

Stop At: Bourke Street, Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3004, Australia

Depending on the weather, your drinking preferences and what's open on the day, your guide will choose 3 amazing bars to take you to. One of our favourites is a hidden rooftop bar off Bourke St.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Little Lon Distilling Co., 17 Casselden Pl, Melbourne Vic, Melbourne, Victoria 3000 Australia

A thriving red light district, brothels, opium and gambling dens, Melbourne certainly had an interesting past! There's plenty of history to uncover on this tour, but don't worry it's not the boring history lesson you got in school!

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Chinatown, Little Bourke Street, Melbourne, Victoria Australia

Depending on your interests your tour could end up in any part of the city. One of our favourite places to take guests though is to the many hidden laneway bars of Chinatown!

Duration: 1 hour

We had a very interesting and informative afternoon with V ! We loved the bars we went to. The drinks were yummy too. V has a wealth of information about the history of Inner City Melbourne’s early days. She particularly showed us and discussed with us how women who had no other choice set up successful businesses in order to survive.

Has an awesome experience. Booked tour just for something different. Highly recommended. Not only did we discover some really cool bars we never knew existed, we also learnt some of Melbourne's history from the early 1900's. Will definitely be booking another tour

A fabulous afternoon spent exploring Melbourne's history and a few watering holes. As long time Melbourne residents we were unsure whether we would get much out of this tour. Well we were wrong. We went to 3 bars that we'd never heard of and had some of the most amazing cocktails and beers at each. All had different offerings and different experiences. Along the way we learnt about history of Melbourne and also of the establishments we were in. The highlight for me was visiting the last remaining single story house in Melbourne's CBD and enjoying their fantastic gin! A huge thank you to our guide Tristan! I highly recommend this tour to locals and travellers alike!

This is a very easy way to both get to know a bit about Melbourne and meet some really nice, like minded people. The group was small enough to make some real connections. Nicole was a great guide and very generous with her time!

We arrived in Melbourne several hours before our “Booze Makes History Better” tour and enjoyed walking through this wonderful city, however, we had no idea how much of the city we were missing until we met up with charming Kellie, our guide from Urban Adventures. We were pleased that Kellie started off the tour with a mention of the aboriginal culture of the area, which evolved into a deeper discussion of the topic, and eventually an alteration of the tour to focus more on this cultural aspect. Kellie is amazingly sensitive to her customer’s interests, and in our case tailored the tour accordingly. One thing we learned on this tour is that there are several eateries in the city that have hidden speakeasies which one can only gain admittance to by asking to see the “secret menu.” Fortunately, through this Urban Adventure tour, Kellie was our own “secret menu,” and we had a wonderful time visiting the hidden gems of Melbourne. We highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in the slightly tipsy human side of the city!

Not much history but saw four interesting/boho bars. Pleasant enough guide but was a little disorganized. The last bar wasn’t even open so we had to scramble to another.
